The T8-S is a new release that has all the features of our popular T8, with a few added extras.

Getting your T8/T8-S set up at first use

How is the T8-S different?

There is space to insert a 2.5in hard drive which is popular with people who like to download live broadcasts or programs for later viewing, as well as more apps like games. You can also store media files on it that you may already have on other devices. Currently this has been tested up to a capacity of 1TB, but theoretically can go higher. We shall update this as we are able to test larger configurations. Previously, storage like this could be done with with external USB drives (all our other devices support external USB), but now there is one less device on the TV stand and several less cables!

The ability to dual boot with Open Elec means you can run Kodi without the Android operating system in the background. This gives you the ability to boot straight into Kodi and reduce the load on the hardware which provides slightly faster results.

DroidShare is a new service available only on the T8-S that enables you to control your DroidBOX® using your phone; display the screen of your phone or tablet directly on the TV screen or vice versa and more.

Can I install the latest addition of Kodi myself.

    • You can always uninstall the application and install via an APK file from the authors, yes. If you prefer, we have the 15.2 build available here – https://droidbox.co.uk/how-to/kodi-spmc-and-dbmc-downloads/

    • Eugene

Yes, Kodi can be installed manually. If you’re not sure of the process, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BmlRWtgPm0 has details using an APK from our site, you can use the same if you download directly from Kodi.TV or even just use the Play Store. You’ll need to uninstall the older version first. Please excuse the long delay with this response.

I’ve been trying to use an external 32GB SD card (micro with adapter) and the device recognises it but I cannot move any apps onto it. I checked and the box is rooted and I tried wth several different App2SD apps but none seem to work and they display some messages like ‘Your device doesnt support moving apps to SD’ even after I updated to the latest OTA firmware. Can you please confirm this is an issue or let me know how I can fix this?

    Thanks

    • Shah Tijani

Android 4.4 by default does clamp down on what can moved over to SD cards, however we are aware there various workarounds possible. We’re currently investigating the suitability of a firmware that can treat appropriate storage as truly Internal Storage, this could help resolve the matter. In the mean time, if you have access to an SSH client, a member of our forum posted here – https://droidboxforums.com/threads/nearly-out-of-storage.2275/ regarding changing some permissions to resolve a similar issue.

I have installed a 250gb hdd onto my T8-S, have do I change the storage path from the internal sd card ?

  • George Mylonopoulos

Hello all. I just got the droidbox and by mistake i pressed switch box and the screen stuck on openelec and I can’t do anything

  • wyn seeley

I have the cpu ,log an
d mem information coming up on the top left of screen can any one tell me how to get rid of information

    • DroidBOX

Wyn, if this is in Kodi/DBMC then please press the letter “O” (not a zero) on a QWERTY keyboard whilst a video is playing. If that doesn’t help, try pressing “I” (the letter i, not a one or L).
If this doesn’t help, or you’re seeing the info you mentioned outside of Kodi/DBMC, then please email support@DroidBOX.co.uk with your order ID or full delivery address.
